| Aims in joint research with universities |
- To strengthen the foundation of technology and competitiveness of advanced technologies and produce creative research results
- To create new markets for the application of semiconductors
- To support the researchers at universities
|
STARC is currently involved in joint research with a number of universities on approximately 50 different themes (46 themes in 2010).
Through these joint research activities, STARC contributes to the expansion and enhancement of research foundations in semiconductor-related technologies at universities and the development of many competent engineers in the semiconductor field. Quick access to the research results is also provided so as to promote the transfer of these results to the associate companies for practical use.

|
| Domains of Joint Research |
| Expansion of the application of semiconductor industry makes the domains of research with wide variety including not only semiconductor device and LSI technology but their application systems technologies |
|

|
| Scheme to Promote Joint Research |
| STARC's joint research activities consist of the "feasibility study (FS)" of research themes including the demonstration, and "idea scout (IS)" with a focus on the exploration of ideas. In FS, visiting researchers from associate companies engage in the joint research as STARC personnel and support the formulation of research plans as well as the research activities. This mechanism promotes personnel interaction and mutual understanding between industry and academia and also helps university students understand the way of thinking of the industry in research and development activities more accurately. |
