Development of VCDS

Design Technology Development Dept.
Semiconductor Technology Academic Research Center

Objectives

Significant improvements in the design and productivity of the System on Chip (SoC)
  • Twenty times (reusing 90% of design materials by the year 2005).
  • One hundred times (reusing 99% of design materials by the year 2010).

Features

Design procedures based on VCores

  • A VCore is a functional component intended for reuse. It has highly abstract and configurable internal structures for both system and architecture levels, as well as configurable external interfaces.
  • System modeling and search technology using VCores.
  • Generating the technology of a VCore's internal descriptions and the interface between VCores.

VCore platform technology

  • Building an infrastructure for sharing VCores.
  • High-level reusable design technology available with VCores.

System configuration of the Virtual Core based Design System (VCDS)

Development plan

  • An gAdvanced Design Technology for the System On Chiph project (2000 to 2004) commissioned by NEDO.
  • 2002: Completion of the prototype with limited features;
    March 2004: Completion of the prototype.
